A modern, well equipped infrastructure is provided to all courses to facilitate better learning. Maharashtra has refurbished lecture rooms and laboratories with Computers, OHP, and LCDs. This makes the teaching - learning process student-friendly and interactive. It has multimedia rooms, a swanky Auditorium, fully air-conditioned Laboratory, huge airy Library with a rich collection of books, journals and periodicals and a large airy Sports room.

The College Library is situated on the Seventh floor. It has a rich collection of nearly 70,000 books on various subjects. The Collection is continuously updated. it has a spacious and well ventilated reading room for boys and girls. Normaly working hours of the library and reading room are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Department of Physics is one of the core Departments of the Science Faculty since the College was established in 1968 and is situated at the fifth floor of main building of this institution. It has a very well-equipped laboratories for Degree College as well as junior college students. The Degree College Physics Lab. has an equally equipped dark room attached to it. It also has computers along with the printer and the internet facility.

The laboratories are airy, well-lit and have ample space for storing the instruments used in Physics Practical. The stabilized power supply is provided in the laboratories. Sufficient number of electrical boards and switches are available in the laboratories for performing electrical, electronics and optics experiments. The LPG supply with 35 tap points is available in the laboratories for performing heat and thermodynamics experiments. A refrigerator is also available in the laboratories. A drill machine and necessary tools too are part of the laboratories for doing the minor repair of instruments

Physics laboratories are well equipped with sufficient number of instruments like CRO's, CRO Trainer, Sine / Square wave generators, Power supplies, Digital / analog Volt meters and Ammeters, LCR meter, Transistor Curve Tracer, Circuit Boards, Microprocessor kits, Optical Benches, Spectrometers, LASER sources, Microscopes, Telescopes, Sodium lamps and Mercury lamps etc.

The Chemistry Department of Maharashtra College, established in 1968, is one of the most versatile, dynamic and largest department in the college. It caters to the largest number of Junior as well as Degree College students of Science Faculty and is well-known for its teaching and research accomplishments. The Department is served by a highly qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching faculty along with efficient co-operative non-teaching staff. Four Faculty members – Dr. Ahamad. M.H. Shaikh, Dr. Julekha Shaikh, Dr. Nilima Dixit and Dr. Mayuri Joshi are recognized Ph. D guides in Chemistry at the University of Mumbai.

The Department is located on the fourth floor of main building of college. It has well equipped separate airy laboratories with required chemicals and proper work stations for Degree College as well as Junior college students along with a well-equipped Physical Chemistry laboratory, Analytical Laboratory, Chemistry Store room, Balance room and Chemical Preparation room. The laboratories are maintained with proper ventilation and gaseous exhaust system along with all necessary requirement for safety purpose like first aid facility, fire extinguishing system and eye wash station.

The labs are also equipped with instruments like pH meters, Potentiometers, Conductivity meters, Colorimeters, Spectrophotometer, Flame photometer, Polarimeter, Sonicator, digital balances etc. Internet facility for browsing net and departmental library with large number of Text books and reference books are also available for faculty and students to study Chemistry in more effective manner.

The Department provides a vibrant environment for faculty and students to foster the spirit of scientific inquiry. For this purpose, along with theory and practical classes, extra-curricular activities such as Conferences, Seminars, Group discussions, live demonstrations, Brain storming sessions, Industrial visits, Guest lectures, etc. are conducted by department for the benefit of students. Every year, eminent resource persons are invited under Chemistry Club of South Mumbai Colleges to inspire and motivate students about the latest trends in chemistry courses that provide opportunities for further studies in Material science, Nano science and technology, Green Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Environmental Science, and other related fields. The department plans to start M. Sc in Analytical Chemistry and develop well equipped research laboratory in future.

Botany Department has three separate laboratories for B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. The labs are well equipped for undergraduates, post graduates and research students to perform various botany practicals which are necessary for the study of structure, properties and biochemical processes of all plant life, plant classification, plant diseases and interactions of plants with physical environment and other living organisms. The laboratories are spacious with good ventilation and with required instruments to cover the syllabus such as dissecting microscope, compound microscope, spectrophotometer, colorimeter, centrifuge machine, hot air oven, Soxhlet apparatus, autoclave, Laminar Air Flow, cold storage, water bath, camera lucida, B.O.D. thermometer and rotary shaker. It is rich with well preserved and maintained specimens, charts and herbariums to ease teaching and learning. Laboratories are installed with projectors, enough computers with high speed internet connection to carry research activities and to perform Bioinformatics practicals.

The Department of Zoology, established in 1968, has a spacious, well-ventilated and well-light laboratory approved by the University of Mumbai. The lab has a large collection of animal specimens, permanent slides, charts, models, and skeletons, enabling students with an exciting first-hand experience. The lab also has energy-efficient state-of-the-art equipments necessary for undergraduate studies as per the University of Mumbai's syllabus. Incubators, ovens, centrifuges, homogenizers, pH metres, electrophoresis equipments, Autoclave, conductivity metre, colorimeters, highly sensitive weighing machines, refrigerators, and dissecting and compound microscopes are all part of the zoology lab. Chemicals and glassware are sufficient to fulfil the requirements of students to conduct experiments. Standard safety precautions are implemented in the lab. Students of first year learn to handle chemicals and devices with care and skill. The lab also contains fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. The lab is ICT-enabled, with a laptop, overhead LCD projector, and high speed internet. We have a well-qualified, cooperative teaching and non-teaching team that is continuously on the lookout for new approaches to satisfy the students' educational needs. This department intends to expand the laboratory's current capacity to suit the demands of higher education and research”.

The computational needs of the Computer Science and Information Technology is met through well-equipped laboratories which are fully Air-Conditioned. The resources in the department are continually updated with the changing industrial trends. There are four computer laboratories which contain over 150 computers that are available for everyday student use. The department has well equipped laboratories with facilities that are vital to train the students in state-of-art software and hardware. Students are encouraged to utilize it to maximum. The computing facility is adequate to cater need of laboratory and project work for students as per curriculum. Students get a computer system to work on for practical. Computer systems are with updated configuration. Additional equipment’s such as raspberry pi kits for related subjects are set up. Students can sit for extended timings in laboratories for projects, mini projects and practice sessions. As a part of our expansion initiatives, 3D Printer has been setup in the M2 Lab of the CS and IT department. The laboratories have high end computers and are used for conducting Multimedia Classes. A ceiling mounted projector is provided to facilitate the faculty & students for conducting the classes. All the systems are networked and are protected against virus, worms & other online attacks. All the computers in the building are connected in LAN and provided with the Ethernet leased line to facilitate high speed internet access round the clock. These computers are upgraded as per the need of university syllabus and the software version change. The computer and related electronic equipment are tested and maintained with a scheduled frequency to keep the facility up and running. Every three months all the computers and related equipment are cleaned with the appropriate blower and tools.

1.ADVANCED COMPUTING LAB : This lab is the pride of our department. This laboratory consists of advance 15 Dell and Lenovo based workstations with 20GB Ram and 1 TB Hard disk that are well equipped to meet the requirements of regular laboratory sessions that are an integral part of the postgraduate curriculum. All workstations have access to both Linux and Windows platforms. All the required software’s are installed with antivirus with periodic updates and maintenance of laboratory are at high priority.
2.PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES LABORATORY : This laboratory consists of 50 Lenovo, Acer and Dell based workstations with dual core processor and 4 GB Ram, well equipped to meet the requirements of regular laboratory sessions that are part of the undergraduate curriculum. All workstations have access to Linux and Windows platforms. This lab is meant for conducting labs mainly for programming languages like VB.Net, Sql Server Enterprise, Java, C++, Graphics in C & projects for final year student’s. This lab is also used to provide students exposure in the areas of Operating Systems & Systems Development. The students are taught Ubuntu, Red Hat Linux, Raspbain and Ms-Windows operating system. Latest software and hardware are installed for programming in C, C++, Java, .NET, Python and LINUX. For Java programming there are IDEs like Net Beans, eclipse and servers like Apache Tomcat, MySQL Server, Oracle, Web servers, Application Server etc.
3.Computing and Hardware Lab : This laboratory consists of 40 Lenovo, Acer and Dell based workstations with dual core processor and 2 GB Ram. This laboratory is especially dedicated for performing practical of Third Year B.Sc C.S and I.T students. This laboratory is also well equipped to educate students regarding Raspberry Pi as per the curriculum. Over 50 Raspberry Pi Kit with various components are available to provide students hands on experience in Raspberry Pi. Hardware.

The Department of Mathematics was established with establishment of college in 1968. The Department has well-qualified, cooperative teaching staff. The teaching staff along with teaching is engaged in research. The Department provides a vibrant environment for faculty and students to foster the spirit of learning. Along with theory and practical classes every year department organizes extra-curricular activities such as Mathematics Exhibitions, Power Point Competitions, and Quiz Competitions etc. for overall development of students and to provide them platform to excel their skills and abilities. Lectures of eminent resource persons are organized so that students get opportunity to interact with academics and researchers in the field and get knowledge beyond the syllabus. The department has separate Computer Lab. It is well equipped with nine computers having high speed internet connections and a printer.

The Coaches are paid Annual Honorarium for coaching our students. The College Gymkhana manages various Team and individual Sports for both Degree and Junior College Students. Our Students represent college in various sports like Cricket, Football, Boxing, Indoor Games and Athletics at intercollegiate, University, District, and National Levels. Our students have brought several Championships, Trophies and Medals over the years. The Gymkhana Managing Committee of our College Awards Gold/Silver Medal and Certificate to the winner in different sport events.
The Gymkhana Managing Committee also provides Kits, Track-Suit-Shirts, Shorts, Shoes, etc., to the participating students for various sports and Tournaments conducted by DSO, District Sports Association and Mumbai University. The Students participating in different Sports are paid Travelling Allowances and Pocket Money as per applicable rule. The College also considers their absence during Match/Event, gives relaxation in attendance and conducts additional Examination as per University rule.
Annual Athletics Meet ( Sports Day ) : Annual Sports Day is organized by Gymkhana every year but due to the Pandemic during the academic year 2021-22, Sports Day couldn't be organized during the said year.



The college has a full-fledged placement cell in order to help students choose an appropriate career and improve their interpersonal skills. The Placement cell consists of Principal, TPO Officer and faculty members, who work towards providing soft skill training, internships and final placements. College has a dedicated team which works throughout the year to provide better placement to all the students in their area of interest. The activities of the cell include collecting the database of the students and compiling them for use when needed. The Training & Placement Cell organizes interview training, internship, placement training programmes, seminars and meetings to encourage the students to plan their future. The Cell’s primary objective is to provide training and placements to college students. Students are led to take the initiative to develop their attitude in the workplace, soft skills and are given the opportunity to develop technical skills alongside analytical capabilities. The Training and Placement Cell aims to expose students to the nature of the corporate world therefore providing insight to their future professional careers.

The Placement Cell started functioning with a very clear objective of ensuring a higher placement record and a better reach to the students of the college. To facilitate this objective, a ‘Placement Awareness Programme’ is conducted every year in the month of December, under which, the Placement representatives visited each division of the B.A, B.Com, B.Sc. and BMS classes with the Principal to give a short presentation on the Placement Cell and its planned activities for the current year, replete with a timeline. This ensures that the students are well informed about the placement activities of the college and their part in it.

COVID-19 has changed the campus recruitment perspective. Industries, institutions, and students who are the key players of campus recruitment process are highly impacted by COVID-19. Last year due to which we were not able to follow conventional campus recruitment hiring models but online we had done recruitment activities.

Main Objectives:-

1.Student preparation

The key focus of the placement cell is to prepare students for their placement and internships. Keeping the students well prepared for what they are likely to face in the corporate world is the responsibility of every academic institute, and the team here at Maharashtra College takes every necessary step to train and guide the students. Students are exposed to challenging internship programs In addition, preparatory programs are also arranged to enhance the communication skills, group dynamics and interview skills. Overall, these programs provided an insight into the job domains and prepared the job aspirants to face the challenges of the future. The preparatory activities sourced information from various alumni, where the alumni background was mapped according to student preference.

2.Internships Opportunities

Industrial exposure and practical experience play a significant role while attempting to enter the corporate world. Internships provide industry exposure and real time experience but also help in one's personal growth and development. Students from their second and third year of Bachelor's appear for the internship recruitment. Keeping the diversity of students in mind and the importance of internships in context, the Placement Cell strives hard to provide students with the best of the opportunities in their field of interest.

Maharashtra College Staff Common Room is located on third floor. It is quite spacious to accommodate around 120 persons at a time. It has a small dining space for teachers with amenities like aquaguard filtered water, wash-basins and attached four washrooms specially for teaching staff. An arrangement has been made for an electric oven being used frequently by teaching staff. The staff common room which is mainly used by faculty members to relax in their spare time, prepare for lectures, undertake studies and research, is a space for the students to interact with their teachers on one to one basis. Sometimes the place is used to interact with parents and guests who visit the college for some specific work. Apart from the usual functions, the staff common room is used for two term end meetings addressed by the Principal. Two such meetings take place every academic year. Apart from these two meetings other important meetings such as interacting with members of management or felicitating teachers on the eve of their superannuation do also take place. One member of non-teaching staff is deputed for the staff common room to assist the faculty members. The place also accommodates book-shelves of various departments used often as mini library. In addition to this all teachers have been provided with lockers which are used by them to keep important papers and lecture notes and such other things. The staff common room is fully equipped with modern amenities like adequate electric lights, fans and air-conditioners. CCTV cameras have also been installed for security purpose. There are two big notice boards, one small white board and two boards installed to display the names of regular faculty members with their designation. There is a committee of Staff Secretaries appointed by the Principal to manage the staff room affairs. There is also an arrangement of canteen person who visits regularly with tea and other food items as when required.

NSS Unit of Maharashtra college of Arts, Science and Commerce has 50 volunteers enthusiastic serving in various fields. Such as Blood camp at churchgate railway station in collaboration Jagjivan Hospital( blood centre), distribution of mask and sanitizers in Kamatipura, Collection of waste in collaboration with Greenway NGO, fund raise for kokan relief, Covid-19 vaccination camp and organized many awareness webinar on various program, our 10 volunteers received Brand Ambassadors in “Bati Bachao Bati Parao” etc.

Last year (2020-21) was the fourth consecutive year in which the LLE Unit of Maharashtra College has successfully completed it all three activities: Annapurna (entrepreneurship development), Industrial Orientation Programme (internship) and Survey of Women’s status. Through these activities the LLE Students enhance their skills and knowledge about research and workspace. This gives an opportunity to build confidence and interpersonal skills.

Lifelong Learning and Extension students and Extension work Teachers with DLLE Director, Dr. Dilip Patil during the HOSH rally (2018-2019) accompanied by Dept. of Sociology students.

The IQAC room is located on the first floor of the college and is open to all faculty members. The room is well-equipped for IQAC and NAAC-related work such as data storage, uploading, printing and conducting meetings related to AQAR, IQAC and NAAC discussion. The IQAC room contains a high-end computer and internet connection to help with the documentation process. The IQAC room also offers a different arrangement for holding discussions and brainstorming sessions about quality improvement.

There is a need for personal space especially for girls who are young adults. This is very essential for them to interact, discuss with their counterparts and also rest if and when needed. Our college has recognized the need for this personal space for girls, especially in a co – educational Institution and has a separate room for the girls, where they can assemble during their recesses.The common room is provided with chair and tables. It has attached washroom facilities, soap dispensers sanitary pad dispenser, water purifier to provide drinking water, both cold and normal. The Ladies Common room has lady peon deployed for its maintenance and surveillance. The room also has Notice Boards which help the girl students to know the recent notices and updates on various Committees of the college.

“Mohammed Ali Mitha” was Established On 9th August, 2018. It has facilities like sound system, air-conditioned and projector. College function such as Annual prize distribution, speech-making, debates, seminars, workshops, quiz contests, blood donation camps, covid vaccine camp are conducted in the auditorium. It is also used for state, national, international for conferences, etc.

Maharashtra College’s Center for Acceleration of Research and Entrepreneurship known as MahaCARE is a Technology Business Incubator catalyzed and supported by Department of Science & Technology under the Startup India Action Plan. MahaCARE is committed to growing a collaborative entrepreneurial network by providing a one-stop support system for start-ups and transforming Mumbai as a hub for innovation.

    Its most important event was held on 23rd October 2019 which was the Admission of the Incubatee company. Ideas and Business plans were collected from the students of Maharashtra College across all the streams. Individual students were called to present their ideas and after the screening process 5 groups were selected which were 1. My AR teacher, an augmented reality app for students. 2. Food Network, providing food items to people of Mumbai. 3. Organic sweet distribution system, made to order food delivery system. 4. WaterRecycling Unit, designed to save water in washing of plastic. 5. AlternateElectric Storage, a battery without harmful chemicals. In the presence of Principal Dr Sirajuddin Chougle, Mr Firoz Khan, Member from GoBiz lab Team, Prof Saima Shaikh, Director of Maharashtra Technology Business Incubation centre and all the members of the team, the 5 groups presented their concept and business model. Out of all the ideas, My AR teacher was selected and was the first company to be Incubated in the Incubation Centre. The selected group signed an official agreement of admission with the Incubation Centre in the presence of Principal Dr Sirajjuddin Chougle, Mr Firoz Khan and Director Maha Care Dr Saima Shaikh.

    Asia Pacific Artificial Intelligence Educators Symposium organised by Huwaei at Taj President, Colaba. We met Mr Huang Zhiyong, Head Dept of CS National University of Singapore, Dr Neeraj Kumar, Professor from JNU, Mr Aadesh Surya Rao, CEO, Mumbai University Incubation Centre, Dr Sameen Fatema, Adjunct Faculty, Osmania University and other distinguished guests from Universities across India. It was a very insightful symposium where the team came to know different opportunities that the incubation centre can explore in the field of AI wherein people from across the streams can participate.

    The Maharashtra College IT and CS department along with the team of Maharashtra College Incubation Centre signed an MoU with 3Dexter for conducting workshop on 3D Printing and setting up a 3D Prininting lab in our college.
